Why is it that even when a mouse in China breaks its leg, repercussions are felt here in Lebanon? As if we don’t have enough problems, we always welcome more complications, debates, and frustrated demonstrations, whenever the opportunity presents itself to us.
The first time, an embassy was burnt to the ground because of the prophet’s caricatures! What is to happen this time we ask???
Angelina’s visit this time made far more commotion than her previous one a few years back, when she secretly came with her adopted child. This time actually, she didn’t exactly make it to Lebanon in person, but just her photo. A photo published in Al-Balad Newspaper recently, featuring her lower leg tattoo of what is supposed to be a kind of Rosary or a Christian praying chaplet made out of a string of beads and a cross, made quite an impact and has upset more than a handful of locals. A few Christian groups have organized an anxious demonstration and have also planned out a visit to the Patriarch Sfeir’s headquarters where they are to publicly denounce what they describe as a strike at the Christian faith.
Do you think it deserves all this anger?
Or are Lebanese just proving once more they are your typical just short-tempered Mediterraneans?
