The Beirut Hippodrome,also called Hippodrome Du Parc De Beyrouth, is a Horse Racing field in Lebanon located on Abdallah Al Yafi Avenue adjacent to Horsh Beirut.
The Beirut Hippodrome was Laid out in 1918 as a an elegant amusement park and casino on 600,000 square meters of land forested with ancient umbrella pines. The racecourse took its present form over a natural sandy track of 1,240 meters in 1923, and during the French mandate the casino became La Residence des Pins the residence of the French administration and later the French Ambassador to Lebanon’s home.
The Beirut Hippodrome is close to other important landmarks such as The Lebanese National Museum, and not far from the city center. It opens its doors for horse races every Sunday. Foreigners can join the fun in the afternoon for free, although a passport or ID is required.
The tract of the Hippodrome has been used as a location for numerous movies and music video clips, such as kol youm fi omry clip shot for singer Elissa with Said El Marouk.
Part of the Hippodrome premises are used to host an annual event called The Garden Show Beirut.
