Rafi was a versatile indian singer, he sang in many different indian languages including Hindi, Urdu, Punjabi, Bengali, Marathi, Kannada and Telugu.

He is primarily remembered by his fans from around the world for his great voice in indian songs, which still remain very famous in the Indian subcontinent and also among the Indian diaspora.

Mohammed Rafi was one of the leading male indian playback singers along with Mukesh and Kishore Kumar, from the 1950s to the 1970s.

In the year 1965 Mohammed Rafi was awarded the Padma Shri in 1965.
