The U.S. Government is currently organizing and providing transportation for all American citizens wishing to depart Lebanon. We urge Americans who intend to depart to avail themselves of this opportunity now. The Department of State urges American citizens to defer travel to Lebanon. The U.S. Embassy is monitoring the situation in Lebanon closely and is assisting American citizens to depart safely. The Department of State continues to encourage American citizens to remain in a safe location until such time that they can depart. American citizens living or traveling in Lebanon who wish assistance in departing Lebanon should contact the Department of State by calling 1-888-407-4747 in the U.S. or 202-501-4444 outside the U.S. Although we understand that Syria is willing to admit Americans without visas, there have been reports of damage to the border crossing on the main Beirut-Damascus road at Masnaa and along the northern Lebanon-Syrian border. If American citizens attempting to depart to Syria despite the hazards encounter difficulty, they should contact the U.S. Embassy in Damascus at 963-11-333-1342. There remains the possibility of anti-U.S. demonstrations, and American citizens are reminded that even demonstrations intended to be peaceful can turn confrontational and possibly escalate into violence. American citizens should avoid any areas where demonstrations are possible and exercise caution if within the
