It hasnt sunk in yet, nor have I cried. I wonder if its the distance or my now excellent denial skills.posted by Firas at 1:16 AM 6 comments Tuesday, September 19, 2006Quit Being Drama QueensAnd in other news, the Pope quotes one of the last Byzantine emperors who complained about Islam being a violent religion. Muslims around the world were offended and threatened to use violence. ()Im not a big fan of Papa Ratzi, but the guy was addressing a western audience. The quote was taken out of context, and I bet you that very few have read it carefully. He was making a case that religious people need to be rational and shun violence. His example happened to quote someone who was referring to Islam, and the point could have as well been made by referencing another quote about Buddhism, Judaism, or Christianity.Muslims, egged on by sensationalist satellite media that is financed by oil autocracies, are acting like the worlds attention-seeking cry babies. Quit yer bitchin and do something productive. Learn from the Indians. You dont see Indians sitting all day doing nothing but whine about British Colonialism. Theyre stealing jobs from the rest of the world.pope muslims islamposted by Firas at 10:49 AM 5 comments Wednesday, August 30, 2006Best Card Trick in the WorldPay close attention to what the magic word is :)posted by Firas at 11:38 AM 6 comments Wednesday, August 23, 2006New Meerah PixIn the field with cousin Rudy.Meerahposted by Firas at 1:50 PM 9 comments Saturday, August 19, 2006Thermo Police 2.0 is coming soon.posted by Firas at 6:59 PM 0 comments Thursday, August 17, 2006WikiMapia - BeirutThis is very cool. Thanks Tom.WikiMapia Beirutposted by Firas at 1:52 AM 9 comments Monday, August 14, 2006On WinningI dont think Israel can be considered to have won this round, neither has Hizballah. War is not a zero-sum game. The Israeli objective has been to dismantle Hizballahs operational infrastructure and render it permanently ineffective at launching attacks into Israel(1). Clearly this is not the case now, so I dont think the Israelis can consider that they won. However, to their credit, they did clearly state their objective. Hizbollah on the other, will most likely drown us with demagoguery about standing up to Israel and not losing a war against the IDF (fallaceously equating that with winning, which is not the case in Zero-sum games). When you murk your objectives, you can easily hand-waive and posture afterwards. I wish someone can tell me what the (clear verifiable) objectives of Hizbollah are in the context of an all-out military confrontation with Israel like the one we just witnessed this past month.
