The newcomers started buying lands from the Lamaa and Asfar families and in 1885 the Asfar family sold their last land to one of the newcomers and moved to Beirut.This land produced silk, vegetables, fruits and others. People used to raise cattles and farmers used to fix lands and plant large areas to support their families. In 1929 peoplefrom Ghabeworked on cutting a road, then the government improved this road in 1943. In 1944 water pipes were constructed and in 1948 electricity covered the village. Nowadays, new buildings were constructed and el-Ghabe became one of the most important villages in el-Metn district which all tourists especially Arabs visit to relax and enjoy nature. Population:Ghabes population is estimated to be around 723 categorized as such: Males: 57%Females: 43%0-14 years: 27.3% 15-64 years: 65.9%65 years and over: 6.8% Population growth rate: 1.36%/year --end text_2----begin heading_3--LOCATION,CLIMATE amp; PLANT LIFE:--end heading_3----begin text_3--LOCATION:el-Ghabe is located next to Brummana Town in el-Metn district 700m above sea level, around 15km from the capital Beirut. CLIMATE:el-Ghabe is generally subtropical and is characterized by hot, dry summers and mild, humid, snowy winters which makes it a good place to spend vacations or just simply live there. PLANT LIFE:Since el-Ghabe means the forest, the green blanket of pine trees still coveres 75% of the village hills.
