That operation was conducted on Israeli soil. The purpose of such an action is a way to push Israel to resort to a prisoner exchange: all the Hezbollah prisoners for the two soldiers. Israel responded with in a shockingly disproportionate way: a full-drawn Israeli attack on Lebanon - still on-going - virtually annihilating its infrastructure and causing thousands of killed and wounded, and these figures are growing by the minute... Hezbollah did not stand still, neither did he turn the other cheek nor watch this operation of insane proportions; he began bombing northern Israeli areas, reaching the city of Haifa, about 40 km of the border and third largest Israeli city and on the ground Hezbollah fighters are going into fierce confrontations with IDF on Lebanese soil. After about a week of constant attacks, the international community watches, silent and motionless. On more than one occasion, the United Nations Security Council gathered to discuss the situation and ended-up with no resolution or a least a request for a cease-fire. A shocking fact of lack of decision from the organization that is supposed to promote peace and help keep it or restore it when needed. But as the Dutch say the UN is a tiger of paper, it gives the illusion of fierceness, but lacks any ability to take any action in the moments that matter and about issues that put the fate of nation on the line.At the present time I wont go into further analysis of the situation, for me the grief is still too close, my heart is aching and Im blinded with tears... And I hope the words of our Fairuz will come true: they asked me what is happening to the country of joy, how come its full of fire and rifles, I told them my country is being re-born, the Lebanon of dignity and the hardy peopleFor minute by minute news, you can visit the Free Patriotic Movement. Please sign the Save the Lebanese Civilians Petition and forward the invitation to your friends. The aim of the site is to present a comprehensive account of the Lebanese Wars, covering the period from 1968 till 2000. The choice to start in 1968 came for what the Israeli Raid represented or rather, what it brought to the attention of everyone and that it was the start of a phase of unease preceding the explosion of the war. In 1968 also, came the first armed Palestinian armed organizations to Lebanon. The complexity of the war requires a thourough exploration of the several dimensions of the war. As it became much more then a civil war, it is crucial to put the events in an internal as well as a regional context. 1968-1974 The Israeli raid over Beirut International Airport brought to the surface major
