S.A.L.known as quot;CMTC quot;, was incorporated in 1964. At the beginning of1965 it became the dealer of Ford of Germany. Within a year CMTC broughtFord sales to number 4 in Lebanon (up from number 22), selling over 1,100units annually. In 1967 CMTC became the sole distributor of InternationalHarvester Trucks and buses.By 1972, CMTC was the number one dealer in terms of salesin Lebanon. In light of its success, CMTC set up a truck assembly plantand assembly plant and assembled International Harvester Trucks from MKDkits.In 1975, CMTC reached an agreement with InternationalHarvester to set up a CKD assembly plant in partnership with IH. The purposewas to produce trucks for the whole Middle Eastern market. The projectwas suspended due to the Lebanese civil war which had started already inApril 1975.CMTC kept its offices open throughout the war years, servingits customers as much as possible under the existing constraints. As soonas hostilities ceased at the beginning of 1991, CMTC became again the mostactive truck distribution in Lebanon.Today CMTC is number two in terms of sales of new trucksin Lebanon and is hoping to reach the number one position in 1997.
